Candlewicking is an embroidery technique dating back to the 1800’s. The name is derived from the soft spun cotton thread which was braided and then used to form a wick for candles. It is a form of Whitework characterized by the use of unbleached cotton thread on unbleached muslin or linen fabric.
This form of embroidery has a distinct style that sets it apart from other embroidery. While any stitch can be used, Candlewicking primarily uses a variation of a French knot, known as a Colonial knot, which is less delicate than a French knot.
Sheepberry’s Candlewick designs are made to order with hand drawn designs (no kits), and hand cut fabric. Most of our work is done on muslin, but we also use cotton and wool. Any design can be done as Whitework, but we also love using color.
We are all about celebrating the big, the small and everything in between. Chat with us, and allow Sheepberry the opportunity to design something unique for your special occasion, that will be treasured for years to come.
